In a significant development, a Naxalite couple with a combined bounty of Rs 10 lakh surrendered to security forces in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on Monday, according to officials.

Identified as Varun Raja Muchaki and Roshani Vijya Wachami, the couple turned themselves in to the police and the Central Reserve Police Force, as reported by the superintendent of police's office. Muchaki, a prominent Bhamragadh LOS commander, and Wachami, a member of the same group, were involved in multiple offences.

The move comes as a part of intensified operations against Maoists in the region, with 27 such surrenders recorded since 2022. The couple will receive Rs 11.5 lakh under the government's rehabilitation scheme.
