The European Union on Monday condemned the attacks on United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon, rejecting allegations that the UN was obstructing Israeli military operations targeting Hezbollah. According to EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, the attacks, mainly attributed to Israeli forces, were deemed 'completely unacceptable.'
As Israel intensifies its campaign against Hezbollah amid ongoing conflicts with Hamas in Gaza, Borrell emphasized the indispensability of UN peacekeepers. He urged Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cease blaming the UN for obstructing military efforts, particularly focusing on calls for evacuations in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Gaza faces dire straits with over 42,000 Palestinians killed in the Israeli offensive, resulting in massive destruction and displacement. The international community continues to watch as tensions mount, calling for the protection and respect for peacekeepers' essential roles.
