The National Commission for Scheduled Caste has reported a staggering 47,000 complaints over the past four years, official data reveals, highlighting continued atrocities against Dalits and disputes involving land and government jobs.

Information obtained from an RTI filed by PTI shows the NCSC received 11,917 complaints in 2020-21, followed by 13,964 in 2021-22, 12,402 in 2022-23, and 9,550 complaints have been logged in 2024 to date.

NCSC Chairperson Kishor Makwana stated that the commission is focused on swiftly addressing these grievances, with plans for state office visits and regular hearings. Uttar Pradesh remains the state with the highest number of cases, accounting for 23.78% of cases filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in 2022.
