The murder of veteran NCP leader and ex-Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique is suspected to be a pre-planned act, according to a Mumbai police official.
In what has become a high-profile case, the crime branch is probing several potential motives, such as a contract killing, business rivalry, or issues surrounding a slum rehabilitation project. Two suspects have been detained, while a third is still at large, as police work to track him down.
The incident took place near MLA son Zeeshan Siddique's office, where Baba Siddique was fatally shot by three individuals. The police have arrested Gurmail Baljit Singh, 23, from Haryana, and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap, 19, from Uttar Pradesh, charging them under relevant legal provisions.
