Lula Criticizes U.S. Involvement in Brazil-Saab Jet Deal
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the U.S. Department of Justice for intervening in Brazil's 2014 purchase of Saab's Gripen jets. Saab has agreed to comply with the U.S. request, despite Lula labeling the move as unwarranted interference.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed criticism on Friday regarding the involvement of the U.S. Department of Justice in Brazil's defense affairs, following the 2014 purchase of Swedish firm Saab's Gripen fighter jets.
On Thursday, Saab disclosed the U.S. request for information and announced its intention to comply, although details remain sparse.
Lula, during a radio interview, stated, 'I think this is the U.S. meddling in another country's affairs,' challenging the rationale behind the request.
