A South African media crew working for Supersport was recently rescued after being kidnapped in southeastern Nigeria. The team was on their way to cover an Africa Cup of Nations match.

According to Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson for Anambra state, the media crew was abducted by armed individuals in Anambra, an area known for separatist unrest. The incident occurred as they traveled from Lagos.

Ikenga confirmed that joint security forces were able to safely recover six members of the crew, while efforts to rescue a seventh continue. Supersport has yet to release a statement about the abduction. The region is frequently plagued by violence from armed groups targeting authorities.
