In a significant decision, South African prosecutors have chosen not to charge President Cyril Ramaphosa in relation to the 'Farmgate' scandal. This development concludes a long-standing investigation into the alleged theft from his game farm, a controversy that had the potential to unseat him two years ago.

The accusations first emerged when a former intelligence official reached out to the police in June 2022, accusing Ramaphosa of money laundering and corruption. Despite these serious allegations, Ramaphosa, known for his business acumen before his political career, has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing in the matter.

After assessing all evidence, the Limpopo Prosecutors' Office concluded there was no reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution. The country's anti-corruption watchdog previously cleared him of any conflict of interest, and the African National Congress later reaffirmed his leadership, re-electing him for another term.
