Samsung India Electronics employees and CITU leaders were briefly detained by police following an unauthorized protest near Sriperumbudur. The workers, on strike since September 9, are demanding revised pay and improved conditions.
The protest is part of ongoing efforts to secure formal recognition for the newly formed Samsung India Workers' Union. CITU leaders, including state president A Soundararajan and Kancheepuram office-bearer E Muthukumar, were also arrested and later released.
Police earlier detained about 500 protestors for staging a demonstration without permission. The situation underscores the growing labor unrest and the pursuit of better working standards in India's electronics manufacturing sector.
