Polio Vaccination Efforts Bolstered by Humanitarian Pauses in Gaza
UNICEF has initiated a second round of polio vaccinations for 590,000 children under 10 in Gaza, starting October 14. Humanitarian pauses have been agreed upon to facilitate the process, and UNICEF emphasizes the importance of adhering to these pauses for successful vaccinations.
Amid ongoing tensions, humanitarian pauses have been secured to allow critical polio vaccinations for children in Gaza. The initiative targets 590,000 children under the age of 10, with the vaccinations scheduled to begin on October 14.
Catherine Russell, UNICEF's Executive Director, stressed the importance of these pauses being respected by all involved parties, emphasizing that without them, vaccinating the children would be impossible.
This move marks a crucial second round of immunizations aimed at curbing the potential spread of polio within the region, highlighting the urgent need for cooperative efforts amidst a challenging climate.
