The BJP has criticized the AAP government's recent decision to hike the MLA Local Area Development (MLALAD) fund from Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore, labeling the move as a deceitful strategy ahead of the impending Delhi assembly elections.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta have called for a thorough audit and oversight of the contracts sanctioned using the increased funds in the next 100 days. They argue that the government's move, so close to the end of its term, may serve electoral interests over public good.
Concerns remain that this fund enhancement, occurring as the assembly's term ends, may not yield the intended development benefits. With the Model Code of Conduct imminent, there's skepticism about whether these funds will effectively address local issues or simply lapse.
