Russia Lifts Visa Restrictions on Georgia Ahead of Tense Election
Russia has lifted visa restrictions on Georgia, allowing its citizens to work there just ahead of Georgia's parliamentary election. This development follows an EU warning regarding Georgia's visa-free status with Europe. The move is seen as part of Russia and Georgia's improving relations, despite tensions and a historical conflict.

Russia has announced the removal of visa restrictions on Georgian citizens, enabling them to work in Russia. This decision comes just weeks before Georgia holds a parliamentary election amidst escalating tensions with Western nations.
The Kremlin's decree has abolished the previous rule that limited visa-free visits by Georgians to 90 days and lifted barriers to working or studying in Russia. This change marks a further step in the thawing of relations between Moscow and Tbilisi, despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties since the 2008 conflict.
As the election date approaches, the ruling Georgian Dream party is taking strong anti-Western stances, while Russia openly supports their continued governance. On the other hand, the European Union has warned Georgia of possible repercussions if the upcoming elections are deemed unjust.
