BRS working president KT Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, initiated legal proceedings on Thursday against Telangana Minister Konda Surekha, filing a defamation suit at a city court. Surekha had alleged KTR's involvement in the 2021 divorce of actors Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya.

Accusing Surekha of making defamatory remarks with malicious intent, Rama Rao sent a legal notice on October 2, demanding an apology for her comments. The remarks sparked considerable backlash from both political figures and the Telugu film fraternity.

Despite Surekha's withdrawal of her controversial statement, Naga Chaitanya, Samantha Prabhu, and Chaitanya's father Nagarjuna condemned the comments, insisting the divorce was a mutual decision. Nagarjuna also filed a defamation complaint on behalf of his family. Court proceedings are set for October 23.
