Custody Controversy: Accused Dies Amid Gujarat Rape Investigation

In a significant turn of events, Gujarat's Surat district witnessed the death of an alleged rapist while in police custody, raising questions over the handling of the case. According to officials, the deceased, identified as Shivshankar Chaurasia, 45, complained of breathing difficulties before being rushed to the hospital where he passed away.
Chaurasia, alongside Munna Paswan, 40, was detained on allegations of raping a 17-year-old girl in Mangrol taluka. The incident occurred Tuesday night when the victim and her friend were approached by the suspects while sitting at a secluded area. The assailants fled with the victims' phones post-attack.
Police captured Chaurasia and Paswan after a brief gunfire exchange, while a third suspect remains at large. Besides this incident, Chaurasia was implicated in past criminal offenses, including a murder case and theft.
