Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri George Kurian, today inaugurated a new Animal Quarantine & Certification Service (AQCS) at Cochin International Airport (CIAL). This facility, designed to streamline the import process for pet dogs and cats, aligns with the Government’s commitment to improving the "Ease of Living" for pet owners and furthering economic growth in the region.

The new AQCS service includes a 24-hour air-conditioned pet station, a dedicated cargo section, a veterinary doctor on call, and a customs clearance center, all aimed at making it easier for travellers to bring their pets into Kerala.

During the event, Ms Varsha Joshi, Additional Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, signed an agreement with CIAL for the operation of the quarantine facilities. CIAL Managing Director, Mr. S. Suhas, emphasized the benefits for pet travellers and highlighted the partnership's goal of offering world-class services to simplify the import process for pets and livestock.

Shri George Kurian encouraged stakeholders to provide feedback on further enhancing import and export processes for livestock and fishery products, which is expected to boost regional economic activity.

This new quarantine facility at CIAL joins existing AQCS stations in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, offering a more convenient option for pet owners importing animals into Kerala and preventing the spread of exotic diseases under the Livestock Importation Act of 1898 (amended in 2001). The move is expected to reduce costs and improve services for those traveling with pets, enhancing overall import and export processes in Kerala. 4o
