The National Human Rights Commission has taken action against Delhi authorities following another tragic incident involving open drains. A five-year-old boy recently died after falling into an uncovered drain in the Alipur area, marking the fifth such incident in Delhi. The NHRC is demanding accountability from civic officials.

According to a statement, the NHRC has issued notices to the Delhi government, city police chief, DDA, and MCD, seeking detailed reports within four weeks. The commission wants updates on FIR statuses, actions against negligent officials, and any compensation for victims' families.

Recurring fatalities, which have occurred across various Delhi regions, underline the negligence by public authorities. The NHRC has urged immediate preventive measures to end such tragedies. Prior incidents include deaths in Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, and Ashok Vihar, highlighting a citywide concern.
