In a significant move to enhance India's military capabilities, the Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the procurement of 31 Predator drones from the US and the construction of two nuclear-powered submarines domestically.
The acquisition, estimated at $3.1 billion, aims to advance the nation's surveillance, especially along the volatile China border. The deal involves a government-to-government framework with US defense major General Atomics.
The drones, including 15 Sea Guardian and 16 Sky Guardian variants, will bolster the Indian Navy, Air Force, and Army's operational capabilities, offering long-endurance surveillance and combat support.
