Sorcerer's Deception: Life Sentence for Rape in Baran

A Baran district court sentenced a man to life for raping a girl under the guise of being a sorcerer. Raghuveer, the perpetrator, was also fined Rs 1 lakh by the POCSO court. The incident occurred in January 2022, and the accused has been in jail since his arrest.

A court in Baran district sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a girl under the pretense of being a sorcerer. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the accused, identified as Raghuveer, announced a lawyer on Wednesday.

The judgment was delivered by Special POCSO Court Judge Sonia Beniwal on Tuesday. The incident took place in the Kawai police station area in January 2022, as reported by Special Public Prosecutor Hari Narayan Singh.

The victim reported that during her fourth visit to Raghuveer, who was known for his alleged healing rituals, he directed her father away to buy items for a ritual. Alone with the minor, Raghuveer exploited and raped her, as stated by the public prosecutor. Following the report, Raghuveer was apprehended within nine days and remains in custody pending trial.
