Bhubaneswar Battles Cybercrime: A Deep Dive into Mega Fraud Case Resolution

Bhubaneswar's cyber police station has been actively confronting a surge in cyber fraud, registering 3,660 cases with a total fraud value of Rs 68.79 crore over the past nine months, according to senior police authorities.
From January to September, police in the city managed to apprehend 24 cybercriminals while recovering fraudulent funds worth Rs 11.86 crore. They've successfully returned Rs 1.80 crore to the victims, said Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra. Extensive investigations led law enforcement teams across several states, including West Bengal and Delhi, targeting the masterminds behind the financial deceptions.
In a proactive step towards combating cybercrime, police are also deploying cyber volunteers during Durga Puja to educate the public. On Wednesday, a 'Cyber Fraud Money Return Mela' was organized, returning Rs 49 lakh to victims affected by various scams including fake calls and fraudulent investment schemes.
