Thane police have successfully dismantled two major sex rackets, leading to the rescue of nine women, officials confirmed on Wednesday. Among the rescued women were two Thai nationals who were forced into sex work.
In the initial raid, the Anti-Extortion Cell targeted a spa operating illicitly within a mall. Arrests were made, including spa employees implicated in the trafficking operation. Charges have been filed under section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
Further investigations led to a second raid by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell at a hotel, resulting in the arrest of a Thai woman accused of leading another racket. Efforts to curb such networks continue as authorities broaden their operations across multiple locations, including Mumbai and Goa.
