The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the 7th foundation day celebration of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), reaffirming the global significance of Ayurveda as one of the oldest medical systems. Speaking on the occasion, she highlighted the holistic approach of Ayurveda, which emphasizes the balance between the mind, body, and spirit for optimal health.

President Murmu remarked that Ayurveda is India's invaluable gift to the world, rooted in ancient knowledge of the medicinal value of trees and plants. She reflected on how traditional knowledge, especially within tribal communities, was rich in the use of herbs and plants for healing. However, with the rise of modernity, this knowledge has been overshadowed by allopathic medicine. She noted the growing global trend towards an Integrative System of Medicine, where different medical systems complement one another for improved health outcomes.

While lauding Ayurveda’s benefits, President Murmu warned against individuals who exploit the public's trust in Ayurveda with false claims and misleading information. She stressed the importance of having qualified Ayurvedic doctors to preserve public trust and prevent exploitation, expressing satisfaction with the growing number of Ayurveda colleges and students.

The President also emphasized the potential of Ayurveda not just for human health, but also for the environment and animal welfare. She pointed out that many trees and plants are becoming extinct because their medicinal value is unknown. Increased knowledge about their importance, she said, would encourage their preservation.

In her concluding remarks, President Murmu called for cooperation between different medical systems. While healthy competition is natural, the goal of all health systems should be to heal patients and improve lives. She stressed the need for research and continuous improvement to ensure Ayurveda remains relevant in modern healthcare, and praised AIIA for its contributions in integrating traditional education with modern technology, advancing Ayurvedic medicine, education, and research.

The event underscored the growing prominence of Ayurveda and India's efforts to combine ancient wisdom with modern advancements for a healthier future.
