The United States has imposed sanctions on Algoney Hamdan Daglo Musa, a key leader of Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, for his pivotal role in supplying weapons to further the ongoing conflict plaguing the nation. The 17-month-long war has claimed over 20,000 lives and severely destabilized the region.
According to the US Department of Treasury, Algoney controls UAE-based Tradive General Trading LLC, which has imported vehicles to Sudan that were modified for military use by the RSF. Algoney, a brother to RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has played a significant part in the continued siege of El Fasher in North Darfur.
US and international entities, including the UN and African Union, have been rallying for peace. However, individuals like Algoney continue procuring arms, fueling the ongoing conflict marked by atrocities such as mass rape and ethnically charged killings, reported as potential war crimes by the UN.
