A 17-year-old girl was reportedly gang-raped by three individuals in Surat district, Gujarat, during the Navratri festival, police said. The alleged crime occurred on the outskirts of Mota Borsara village in Mangrol taluka, within Kosamba police jurisdiction, around 11 pm on Tuesday.

After enjoying ice cream with friends, the teenager and her male friend were approached by three men while sitting in a deserted area on their way to a nearby petrol pump. The suspects seized the girl, while her friend escaped to raise the alarm. They reportedly took turns to assault her before fleeing with both their mobile phones.

The police, acting on a tip-off, have detained a motorcycle and identified two of the accused. Efforts to capture all involved are underway, bolstered by over ten police teams, a dog squad, and forensic experts. An FIR has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
