In an effort to restore peace in Myanmar, Thailand plans to intensify its bilateral engagement with the country, according to its prime minister. The announcement was made on Wednesday, as Thailand calls for increased political dialogue prior to Myanmar's scheduled election next year.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra emphasized the need for cooperation among ASEAN countries to ensure a peaceful and stable Myanmar. Speaking at the ASEAN leaders' summit in Laos, Shinawatra expressed Thailand's commitment to working with regional allies for a unified Myanmar.
The Thai government has identified peace and stability in Myanmar as a common regional interest. The focus will be on creating more political space and fostering dialogue to achieve these goals, as outlined in a statement released by the Thai government.
