Alleged Terrorist Plot Foiled: Arrest in Oklahoma
An Afghan man, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, was arrested in Oklahoma for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack on election day. He reportedly planned the attack in the name of Islamic State. Tawhedi, along with his co-conspirator, aimed to target large gatherings. They were arrested while attempting to purchase firearms.
The United States Department of Justice revealed the arrest of Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, an Afghan national living in Oklahoma City, for allegedly planning an election day terrorist attack. According to the indictment, Tawhedi, 27, was operating on behalf of the Islamic State.
Tawhedi arrived in the U.S. on a special immigrant visa in 2021. He allegedly researched online ways to access cameras in Washington D.C. and states with lax gun laws. Alongside his underage brother-in-law, Tawhedi attempted to acquire firearms directly from undercover FBI operatives.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized ongoing efforts to thwart ISIS-inspired threats. A Department of Homeland Security report noted elevated risks due to electoral cycles and global conflicts. The Islamic State remains a formidable force despite territorial losses.
