The West Bengal government has launched a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged rape-murder of a 10-year-old girl in Kultuli, South 24 Parganas district, an official disclosed on Tuesday.

Leading the SIT is Baruipur SP Palash Chandra Dhali, who vowed to ensure justice is delivered swiftly. Authorities hope this investigation will quell the growing unrest among locals.

The tragic incident, occurring on October 5, ignited statewide protests. Enraged locals torched vehicles, vandalized a police outpost, and obstructed roads after discovering the girl's body in a pond. To date, one arrest has been made linked to the case.
