India Critiques UN's 'Pact of the Future' for Lack of Ambition in Security Council Reforms
India has expressed dissatisfaction with the 'Pact of the Future' adopted at the UN, stating it falls short in addressing necessary reforms for the Security Council. India's Permanent Representative emphasized the need for more inclusive governance, development goals, and global digital governance.
During a recent UN session, India voiced its unease over the 'Pact of the Future', highlighting its shortcomings in Security Council reform. The pact, adopted by world leaders, lacks ambition according to India's UN envoy P. Harish.
India stressed the importance of expanding the Security Council's composition and addressing issues like sustainable development and digital governance. The pact's current framework does not meet these needs, according to Harish, especially with no fixed timeline for action.
As part of India's global vision, it seeks comprehensive reform in financial systems and representation to enhance participation by developing countries, aligning with the principles in the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration.
