A Delhi court has handed down a 27-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to a 23-year-old man convicted of raping and impregnating his 14-year-old relative in 2020. The court recognized the significant trauma inflicted on the young survivor.
The convict, found guilty under Section 328 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, had drugged the victim before committing the assault. Prosecutors sought the maximum penalty due to the heinous nature of the crime.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court granted the survivor a compensation of Rs 15 lakh, highlighting that monetary redressal is her fundamental right and essential for alleviating her suffering.
