China Challenges Turkey's EV Tariffs at WTO
China has initiated a trade dispute with Turkey at the World Trade Organization over tariffs on electric vehicles. Beijing claims these tariffs are discriminatory and violate WTO rules. Turkey recently imposed additional tariffs and conditions on Chinese vehicles. The EU is also enacting tariffs on Chinese EVs.
China has taken a crucial step by filing a trade dispute against Turkey at the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning tariffs imposed on Chinese electric vehicles.
The diplomatic move underscores increasing global trade tensions over China's rising EV exports, which are alleged to be heavily subsidized by Beijing. The Chinese authorities argue the Turkish tariffs violate WTO rules and amount to economic protectionism.
Ankara's decision to impose a 40% additional tariff is said to affect imports significantly, even as Turkey pursues stronger ties with Chinese automakers like BYD and Chery. The European Union is likewise advancing its tariff measures on vehicles originating from China.
