Norway Raises Terror Threat Amid Regional Tensions
Norway has elevated its terrorism threat level due to increased risks of attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets, following incidents in Denmark and Sweden. The national police will carry firearms, escalating from normal practice, as the security service raises the threat level to 'high'.
Norway has increased its terrorism threat assessment to the second-highest level, citing a higher risk of attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets, the national police directorate announced.
Incidents in the region prompted the move: two men in Denmark were charged with detonating grenades near Israel's Copenhagen embassy, while Sweden investigates a shooting near the Israeli mission in Stockholm.
Normally unarmed, Norwegian police will now bear firearms nationwide following the PST security service's decision to raise the threat level. The move reflects escalating tensions due to the Middle East conflict.
