The European Union has announced a new framework designed to impose sanctions on individuals connected to malicious cyber activities and information manipulation orchestrated by Russia. This move aims to counter threats to EU support for Ukraine.
NATO has previously warned of increased Russian 'hostile state activity' against several member countries, posing a significant threat to allied security. The EU has echoed these concerns, noting disruptions in satellite communications, airspace violations, and targeted physical attacks.
Despite the introduction of this sanctions framework, no specific measures have been enacted yet, pending agreement among member states. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell emphasized Europe's unified stance and commitment to holding perpetrators accountable, ensuring unwavering support for Ukraine.
