The Indian Air Force (IAF) marked its 92nd anniversary with an immaculate ceremonial parade, breathtaking aerial demonstrations, and a spectacular static display of cutting-edge equipment at the Air Force Station in Tambaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on October 8, 2024. The event was graced by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, while the ceremonial parade was reviewed by Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.

Address by the Chief of Air StaffIn his address, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh emphasized the need for the IAF to remain ever-prepared to address any contingencies that threaten national interests. He noted that the global security landscape is constantly changing, and ongoing conflicts underscore the importance of a strong and capable Air Force. He stated, "Adopting the latest technology along with innovative and out-of-the-box thinking will be crucial in today’s multi-domain environment."

The Chief of Air Staff highlighted the theme for Air Force Day 2024: ‘Bhartiya Vayu Sena: Saksham, Sashakt, Aatmanirbhar’ (Indian Air Force: Capable, Empowered, Self-Reliant), which embodies the aspirations of the IAF. “We have become more empowered with better technology and achieved new levels of operational exploitation of systems and weapons,” he said, stressing the priority of Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defense research and development, as well as manufacturing.

Celebrating AchievementsThe IAF's anniversary serves as an occasion for air warriors to reaffirm their commitment to national service, reflect on past achievements, and prepare for future challenges. Air Chief Marshal AP Singh noted that the IAF has excelled in various operational fronts over the past year. “One of our primary objectives is to deliver weapons, on target, on time, every time, which was showcased during the firepower demonstration exercise ‘Vayu Shakti’ at Pokhran Range in February 2024,” he said.

He further highlighted the IAF's increased participation in bilateral and multilateral exercises, including the successful conduct of the largest multinational exercise on Indian soil, ‘Tarang Shakti’, as a testament to the competence and professionalism of India’s air warriors.

The Chief of Air Staff also underscored the IAF's role as the first responders in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations, both domestically and internationally, reaffirming the importance of personnel welfare and family well-being.

A Grand ParadeThe festivities began with the ceremonial marching-in of the President’s Colours, symbolizing pride, unity, strength, and esprit de corps. The Tri-Services Band filled the atmosphere with patriotic melodies, while the Air Warrior Drill Team captivated the audience with their sharp and synchronized movements, leaving a lasting impression.

Thrilling AirshowFollowing the parade, the skies over Chennai came alive with an exhilarating airshow featuring various aircraft, including the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, Sukhoi-30 MKI, and Pilatus performing daring low-level aerobatic maneuvers. The Suryakiran Aerobatics Team and Sarang Helicopter Team dazzled the audience with their stunning aerial displays, painting the sky in the vibrant colors of the national flag.

C-295 Transport Aircraft

Akash Missile Defence System

HTT-40 (Basic Trainer Aircraft)

These displays underscored the IAF's technological advancements and commitment to maintaining a modern and capable air force.

The 92nd anniversary celebration of the Indian Air Force served as a fitting tribute to its nearly century-long unwavering dedication and unparalleled service to the nation. The theme ‘Bhartiya Vayu Sena: Saksham, Sashakt, Aatmanirbhar’ reflects the IAF's ongoing journey towards self-reliance, innovation, and excellence in the service of India. The event exemplified the IAF's commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region, ensuring readiness to address the challenges of an evolving global security environment.
