Christian Brueckner, identified as a suspect in the high-profile case of Madeleine McCann's disappearance, was acquitted on Tuesday by a German court in the city of Brunswick on unrelated sexual abuse charges.

Brueckner, who has been caught in the spotlight of suspicion for the 2007 vanishing of young McCann from a holiday resort in Portugal, denies any connection to the incident.

Throughout the trial in Brunswick, he faced accusations involving three counts of aggravated rape and two of sexual abuse of children spanning from 2000 to 2017, charges from which he has now been cleared.
