In the wake of violence in Ukhrul, Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra has demanded an investigation into arms looting from a police station, implicating the state government in the apparent proliferation of arms. The Congress leader's remarks followed a deadly altercation linked to a land dispute.
The confrontation between two groups in Ukhrul left four dead and 20 injured. As tensions rose, a mob stormed a local police station, seizing weapons. Meghachandra criticized the government's repeated failure to secure police armories during such outbreaks, labeling it a failure of governance.
Further criticism came from AICC secretary Christopher Tilak, who stated the violence is 'man-made' and has devastated Manipur's economy, halted agriculture, raised youth unemployment, and strained health services. Criticizing the dual government, Tilak argues these issues reflect deeper systemic failures.
