An employee at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been killed in a car bombing, an act allegedly targeting a 'war criminal', Ukrainian military intelligence revealed.

The Russian Investigative Committee reported that Andrei Korotkiy, aligned with the plant's security department, died when an explosive device detonated beneath his vehicle outside his Enerhodar residence.

The attack further strains tensions surrounding the plant, a key site since Russian forces seized control during their February 2022 military incursion into Ukraine. Both Russian and Ukrainian authorities have long traded blame, though the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency urges restraint and maintains a permanent observer presence.
