The Supreme Court of India announced on Friday that it intends to establish legal principles regarding high courts overturning orders made in open court. This announcement follows a specific case from Madras High Court where a decision was initially reversed before being reheard.

The case involves former IPS officer M S Jaffer Sait, who was implicated in a money laundering investigation tied to the alleged illicit allocation of a Tamil Nadu Housing Board plot. A bench consisting of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih decided to pause the proceedings against Sait.

The apex court set November 22 as the date for further hearings, citing concerns over the Madras High Court's decision to rehear Sait's case soon after quashing it. Previously, a report from the Madras HC's Registrar General prompted the Supreme Court to label the high court's actions as 'absolutely wrong.'
