A city court has temporarily granted bail to renowned cinema choreographer Jani Master, following allegations of sexual assault made against him. The interim bail, effective from October 6 to October 10, was issued to allow him attendance at the upcoming National Film Awards ceremony in Delhi.
Shaik Jani Basha, widely known as Jani Master, was initially apprehended in Goa by the Cyberabad police on September 19 before being transported to Hyderabad. The court had previously remanded him to 14-day judicial custody in light of the serious charges brought against him by a female colleague.
The assistant choreographer alleged repeated incidents of sexual assault, harassment, and coercion, dating back to 2020. The ongoing case has invoked several sections of the Indian Penal Code, in addition to relevant POCSO Act provisions—reflective of the victim's minor status at the time of the alleged offenses.
