Rosenergoatom, the operator of Russia's Kursk nuclear power plant, confirmed the facility is functioning normally with radiation levels safe, following unsubstantiated media claims of an attempted Ukrainian assault.
On Thursday, various Russian Telegram channels alleged that Ukrainian forces attempted an attack on the plant, which was foiled by air defenses, leading to a fire several miles from the site.
Reuters has been unable to independently verify these claims. Ukrainian forces invaded Kursk on August 6 and are still present, as Russian forces struggle to repel them.
