In a significant breakthrough, Jharkhand police apprehended five Maoists, including a prominent leader with a Rs 5 lakh bounty, in the state's Gumla district. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts against insurgency in the region.
A substantial cache of weapons was recovered during the operation, including a carbine, three rifles, three country-made pistols, and 137 live cartridges, signaling a major blow to Maoist activities in the area.
The leader, captured from Anjan Hirnakhand forest, provided critical information that led to the arrest of four more Maoists. Over the last three years, several Maoist leaders have either been apprehended or eliminated in similar operations, as stated by Anup Birthare, DIG of South Chhotanagpur Division.
