Abdel-Aziz Salha, a Hamas militant deported to Gaza after a prison swap, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a school shelter in Gaza. He was involved in a 2000 lynching of Israeli reservists in Ramallah. The strike is part of ongoing conflicts in Gaza, escalating tensions with Hezbollah.
An Israeli airstrike has killed Abdel-Aziz Salha, a Hamas militant, in Gaza. Salha was previously jailed for life for his role in the 2000 lynching of Israeli reservists in Ramallah, but was later released in a prisoner swap. He was killed in a strike on a tent at Al-Aklouk School in Deir Al-Balah, which medics report shelters displaced Palestinians.
The Israeli military has not commented on whether Salha was deliberately targeted. Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise as Israeli forces recently killed three senior Hamas officials in Gaza, identified as Rawhi Mushtaha, Sameh Al-Saraj, and Sami Odeh. Mushtaha had significant roles in military decisions and civil governance, including the Prisoners Affairs Portfolio.
The ongoing conflict has seen increased violence, with Israeli strikes reportedly killing over 99 Palestinians across Gaza in a 24-hour period, according to Palestinian health officials. The hostilities began after a Hamas-led attack on Israeli towns in October last year, resulting in substantial casualties on both sides and a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
