Bangladesh's Diplomatic Overhaul: Envoys Recalled
Bangladesh's interim government has recalled five key envoys, including the ambassador to India, amid a sweeping diplomatic reshuffle. This follows political unrest that led to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and subsequent flee to India, marking a significant shift in the country's foreign relations strategy.
Bangladesh is undergoing a major diplomatic reshuffle, with the temporary government recalling five prominent envoys, including the ambassador to India. This move follows the recent political turmoil that resulted in the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has since sought refuge in India.
According to foreign ministry sources, the directives were issued to envoys stationed in Brussels, Canberra, Lisbon, New Delhi, and at the United Nations in New York. The decision appears to be part of a broader strategy by the new administration to clear out appointments made by Hasina's government.
This development occurs amid heightened tensions, evidenced by the significant death toll from protests that pushed Hasina out of office. The situation has also affected Bangladesh's relationship with neighboring India, marked by a lengthy shared borderline and maritime interests in the Bay of Bengal.
