The European Commission announced on Thursday its decision to sue Hungary over legislation that enforces imprisonment for organizations receiving foreign funding for political activities.
The Commission initiated an infringement procedure back in February against the Hungarian regulation aimed at "protecting national sovereignty." This law is being scrutinized for allegedly violating the European Union's foundational democratic principles and fundamental rights.
Despite having analyzed the response from Hungarian authorities, the Commission maintains that the critical concerns identified have largely remained unaddressed, as detailed in their official statement.
