New Corruption Charges Loom Over NYC Mayor Eric Adams
Federal prosecutors are investigating New York City Mayor Eric Adams for additional corruption charges, alleging he accepted undue benefits from Turkish officials and other foreign entities. The investigations span nearly a decade, focusing on his political campaigns and relationships with foreign donors. Adams denies all allegations.
Federal prosecutors announced on Wednesday their pursuit of several related investigations that could bring additional corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, as well as indictments for individuals in his circle.
The disclosure came as the first-term Democrat appeared in court for the first time since his arraignment last week on charges of accepting about USD 1,00,000 worth of free or deeply discounted international flights, hotel stays, meals, and entertainment, and seeking illegal campaign contributions from foreign interests.
Prosecutors assert that Adams' travel perks were facilitated by a senior Turkish diplomatic official in New York and Turkish businesspeople looking to influence the mayor. The indictment also alleges that Adams conspired to secure contributions for his political campaigns through straw donors from foreign sources, prohibited from giving to US candidates. He has entered a not-guilty plea.
