Haiti's Transitional Presidential Council Members Accused of Bribery

An anti-corruption agency in Haiti has issued a damning report accusing three members of the country's transitional presidential council of bribery.

Smith Augustin, Emmanuel Vertilaire, and Louis Gérald Gilles are alleged to have demanded over USD 750,000 from the director of the National Bank of Credit to secure his job, according to the Unit for Combating Corruption.

The report states that Gilles organized a meeting at the Royal Oasis Hotel in Port-au-Prince, involving the council members, the former bank director Raoul Pascal Pierre-Louis, and Haitian consul Lonick Leandre, where the demand was made.
