Iranian President Seeks Support Against Israel During Qatar Visit
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Qatar for bilateral talks and a summit to seek Asian countries' support against Israeli actions in the Middle East. Pezeshkian criticized Israel's role in recent assassinations and discussed strengthening ties with Qatar. The visit also aimed at fostering peace and security in the region.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Qatar on Wednesday to engage in bilateral discussions and attend a summit where he hopes to rally Asian countries against what he described as 'Israeli crimes' in the Middle East.
Embarking on his first trip to Qatar as president, Pezeshkian condemned Israel for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh on July 31. Although Israel has not confirmed its involvement, the action has led to escalating tensions, including Iran firing missiles at Israel.
'We seek security and peace,' Pezeshkian stated to reporters upon his arrival in Qatar. He urged European and U.S. intervention, criticizing them for failing to promote peace in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised a response to Iran's missile attacks, escalating the rhetoric further.
Pezeshkian highlighted that the primary goal of his visit is to fortify bilateral ties and sign agreements with Qatar. Additionally, he aims to leverage the upcoming Asia Cooperation Dialogue summit to garner support from Asian countries to counteract Israeli actions and maintain regional stability.
Qatar has been actively mediating a ceasefire deal in Gaza, although progress has stalled. Pezeshkian's visit signals a new effort to address the ongoing conflict.
