Three young Swedes were arrested Wednesday following two predawn explosions close to the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen, causing a nearby Jewish school to close for the day. No injuries were reported, according to the police.
Jens Jespersen, a spokesperson for the Copenhagen police, indicated that the blasts were likely due to hand grenades and occurred around 3:20 am, approximately 100 meters from the embassy. One suspect was arrested near the embassy, while the other two were detained on a train at the central station. All suspects were between 15 and 20 years old, and preliminary charges of illegal weapons possession are expected. Jespersen added that further charges might be introduced.
The incident led to a heavy police presence, with armed officers, search dogs, and forensic teams inspecting the area. Copenhagen's Jewish school, Carolineskolen, was already scheduled to be closed for the Jewish New Year holidays. Increased security will also be implemented around Copenhagen's main synagogue. Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard emphasized the severity of the incident, noting that it was too early to determine a motive.
