A woman sarpanch from Gondia district in Maharashtra was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000, officials stated on Wednesday.
The bribe was purportedly demanded for signing a cheque for a Gram Panchayat worker's honorarium totaling Rs 53,200, accumulated over four months.
The complainant, a Rozgar Sewak, approached the ACB when the sarpanch of Indora village demanded the bribe. She was caught in the act on Tuesday at the Gram Panchayat office, leading to her arrest and a subsequent case registered at Tirora police station.
