Justice Served: Man Sentenced to Death for Heinous Crime in Odisha

A POCSO court in Odisha's Sambalpur district has sentenced Prasanta Baghar to death for the gruesome rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in March 2022.

The incident occurred when the young girl went to a field to relieve herself. According to special prosecutor Santosh Panda, Prasanta forcibly took her away and committed the crime before beheading her with an axe and returning to the village with the severed head.

Following a scuffle with his wife over the crime, the police apprehended Prasanta. The court, after examining 25 witnesses, found him guilty and ordered his execution alongside a penalty of Rs 1 lakh. The case will now proceed to the high court for final judgment.
