The NHRC has issued a notice to the Bihar police chief following reports that a man, bitten by a snake, lost his life due to being detained by policemen who demanded a bribe, thereby delaying his hospital visit in Kaimur district.
The policemen allegedly demanded Rs 2,000, forcing the man to call his brother, who managed to arrange only Rs 700, delaying critical medical treatment, according to the NHRC.
The National Human Rights Commission cited that if the news reports are accurate, it signifies a severe violation of human rights due to police misconduct. The NHRC has requested a detailed report within two weeks, including the investigation's status and any action against the police personnel.
