Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday praised the state's police force on Assam Police Day for ensuring sustained law and order and evolving to tackle new-age crimes.

The governor acknowledged the numerous challenges faced by the personnel, such as ethnic riots, refugee issues, infiltration, and militancy, and commended their dedication and sacrifices. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed gratitude for their role in maintaining peace and stability.

Acharya, speaking at the 74th Assam Police Day programme, highlighted the rich history of Assam Police and their transformation over the years. He lauded their efforts in tackling crime, improving charge-sheet submission rates, and addressing new-age crimes like cybercrime and rhino poaching. Director General of Police GP Singh, special DGP Harmeet Singh, and other senior officers were also in attendance.
