Britain Sanctions Members of Russian Cyber-Crime Gang Evil Corp
Britain has sanctioned 16 members of the Russian cyber-crime gang Evil Corp, accused of executing cyber operations against NATO allies. The action was coordinated with the U.S. and Australia. The gang, once considered a major cyber threat, allegedly collaborates with Russian intelligence services for cyber-attacks and espionage.
Britain announced on Tuesday the sanctioning of 16 members from the Russian cyber-crime gang known as Evil Corp, which has been accused of conducting cyber operations against NATO allies. This action was coordinated with officials in the United States and Australia.
Britain's National Crime Agency (NCA) shared that Evil Corp was previously believed to be the most significant cyber-crime threat globally. 'Today's sanctions send a clear message to the Kremlin that we will not tolerate Russian cyber-attacks - whether from the state itself or from its cyber-criminal ecosystem,' stated foreign minister David Lammy.
The sanctions also target the alleged leader of Evil Corp, Maksim Yakubets, and other individuals connected to the group's activities, further linking them to Russian intelligence services and additional cyber-criminal entities such as the ransomware group LockBit.
